Cheonggyecheon (Stream)

Cheonggyecheon

It is 10.84km in length and the gross area is 59.83㎢. All water of Seoul basin that is surrounded by Mt. Buak, Mt, Inwang, and Mt. Nam flows toward east and then is merged around the Salgoji Bridge out of Wansimni area with Jungnangcheon (stream). This stream flows toward west and eventually enters the Han River.

The Cheonggyecheon Restoration project of the Seoul Metropolitan Government that began from July 2003 reaches throughout 5.8km from the building of the Dong-A Ilbo in Gwanghwamun to Shindap Railroad Bridge in Seongdong-gu. Upon the construction completion on October 1, 2005 for 2 years, various historical relics including the Banchado of King Jeongjo (tile painting and Cheonggye prominent landmark No.3) are restored focusing on a total of 22 bridges along the Cheonggyecheon. As for the major bridges, there are Mojeon Bridge, Gwangtong Bridge, Jangtong Bridge, Budeul Bridge, and Dumul Bridge.

Operation hours of facilities at Cheonggyecheon

  • Jan. 1 ~ Dec. 31 : 24-hour operation of Cheonggye Falls
  • Mar. 1 ~ Nov. 30 : Digital canvas from 19:00 to 21:00
    (operation for 8 minutes and break for 22 minutes for every 30 minutes / operation five times a day * Operation 20:00 ~ 21:30 from May to September)
  • Apr. 1 ~ Oct. 31 : 24-hour operation of Samgakdong water screen

  • Apr. 1 ~ Nov. 15 : Water fountain at the stream starting point from 12:00 to 21:00 (operation for 50 minutes and break for 10 minutes for every hour)

  •  Apr. 1 ~ Nov. 30 : Dumuldari heart fountain from 12:00 to 21:00 (operation for 50 minutes and break for 10 minutes for every hour)

  • May 1 ~ Sep. 30 : High elevation fountain at Seungyo, Okryucheon, Ogansugyo fountain from 12:00 to 21:00
